National Youth Leadership Training

NYLT is an exciting, action-packed program designed to provide Scouting America youth members with leadership skills and experiences they can use in their home Troop or Crew and other situations that demand quality leadership. This training integrates the best of modern leadership theory with Scouting. NYLT participants engage in a unified approach to leadership through activities, presentations, challenges, and discussions. Participants learn leadership skills by doing a wide range of activities, events, games, and adventures,

Objectives:

  • Develop confidence and knowledge to conduct unit programming
  • Understand the stages of Team Development
  • Find personal vision and set SMART goals
  • Provide opportunities to share ideas and experiences with others
  • Experience conflict resolution and learn ethical decision-making skills

Who attends?

NYLT is for YOU if you are a leader in your unit or want to serve in a leadership role!

Requirements & Expectations:

  • Scouts must be registered in a Troop or Crew and at least First-Class rank. Scouts in Troops must be at least 13 years of age, but not yet 18 by day one of the course.
  • Live by the Scout Oath and Scout Law always.
  • Attend the entire course: Scouts who do not attend the full course will not receive credit for the course.
  • Unit leader approval.
  • Attend the mandatory NYLT orientation meeting with a parent or guardian.
